My Background
My name is Carolyn R. Mahoney, and I would like to provide information for you about my background. As you will see in this portfolio, my skills are varied and include many fields of study and work.
Originally, I was a legal assistant in three law firms, and this eventually led to my work as Deputy City Clerk for the City of Columbia, Missouri. Being near the University of Missouri provided the opportunity to pursue further study, and I finished my degree in education, and worked for several years as a teacher and program coordinator.
In my years of teaching, one of my classes was a basic computer class. Out of necessity, its curriculum had to develop from my own creation and discovery due to no prior formal computer training.
That skill and knowledge went on to became an important asset and component when my husband and I founded a new company, Exacto Inc. Starting a small business, which has now grown and become quite successful, necessitated my developing many computer skills, including desktop publishing for advertising and brochures, designs of labels and logos, and creating accounting software to fit the company's needs.
In addition to working in these public positions and venues, I have also been a private piano teacher and a volunteer, leader, speaker, and organizer with many community associations. That involvement has also included elements of my computer skills including design of logos, brochures, booklets and website development.
